Over the last several decades, the Zweigelt grape has developed a strong identity in Austria and especially in the Danube region where the hometown (Langenlois) of its creator Dr. Zweigelt is. It exudes a shiny ruby red colour with a light violet tone. The nose gives off fruitiness with hints of cherries along with spicy nuances. Its full body with delicate notes makes this wine a popular food companion.
ROBERT PARKER - The Wine Advocate, 12/21 week 2: rating 92
Aged in 50-hectoliter oak vats, the 2018 Domæne Gobelsburg Zweigelt is deep and intensely aromatic on the dense, stimulatingly fruity nose that opens to dark cherry and berry aromas with a delicate, spicy, Syrah-like touch. Juicy, round and elegant on the palate, this medium-bodied wine reveals stunning concentration and juiciness for this price level as well as elegant and refreshing mineral acidity that leads the wine to an intense and spicy finish. This is a Best Buy and goes well with many dishes. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021
