The Schloss Gobelsburg BLANC DE BLANCS style is on one side marked by the vineyards of the Danube region and their grape varieties (Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Chardonnay). On the other hand the character is marked by the vinification in barrels made of Austrian oak trees. Grapes are harvested at the perfect moment, transported in small boxes and are immediately pressed, whereby only the heart of the must is used. After six months of cask storage, it is bottled for the second fermentation. It matures for in between 2,5 and 3 years on the lees, allowing the wine to develop a beautiful creamy texture, until it is hand riddled and then disgorged.
FALSTAFF Ultimate Wine Guide 24/25: 94 points
ROBERT PARKER - The Wine Advocate 12/2021: 93 points The intensely yellow-colored wine offers a very rich and intense nose of ripe fruits with buttercup, grassy and flinty notes, from a bigger glass with more refreshing citrus and intense brioche aromas. Fresh on the palate, this is an elegant, stunningly pure and stimulating sparkling wine that is less opulent than the nose. The wine is vital and lemony on the finish, revealing a firm structure and fine grip. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021.
WINE ENTHUSIAST, Anne Krebiehl MW: 93 points A flinty sense of reduction is soon followed by creamy, smoky notions of Mirabelle plum on the nose. The palate remains taut and carries the smoky fruit aloft on its myriad creamy bubbles. Tautness and freshness are key on this wonderfully austere and grown-up Sekt. Lemony briskness, autolytic depth and smoldering smokiness make for a great trio.
GAULT MILLAU 2021: Sparkling Wine of the YearCertificate James Suckling 11/21: 93 points Vivacious and delicate nose of fresh herbs, white flowers and wild berries. Very cool and restrained with a sleek body and seriously dry balance for a Brut, this Champagne-method Austrian sparkler has a long, very clean and mineral finish.
