With the nature-friendly care of the vineyards and the grapes, ecclesiastical purity requirements are keenly observed. Altar wine must be natural and not amended in any way. Chemical or taste-changing additives are not allowed. Altar wine can be produced only with the permission of the bishop. With an alcohol content between 12% and 12.5%, our Messwein is on the same quality level as the classic Kamptal Grüner Veltliner – fresh, easily approachable and pleasant to drink.
Vintage 2020 ROBERT PARKER - The Wine Advocate, 12/21 week 2: rating 90 The Messwein Grüner Veltliner comes from the lower, frost-vulnerable vineyards and is picked late, in the first week of November. The yellow-golden wine opens with a fascinating intense and aromatic bouquet with perfectly ripe fruit and refreshing lemon and earthy aromas. Vivacious and round on the palate, this is a gorgeously intense and juicy-aromatic Veltliner with stunning elegance and aromatic persistency. It is nicely bitter and grippy on the finish. The grapes had an incredibly high acidity for Veltliner picked that late (eight grams per liter total acidity). The grapes were pressed as whole clusters, and the fermentations took place in stainless steel vessels (alcoholic and malolactic) at controlled temperatures. Bottled in April this year with 12.2% alcohol. Tasted at Schloss Gobelsburg in June 2021. DR.
